What to stop doing to get started on being happier..

Sometimes you may think to yourself, what am I doing wrong that is making me unhappy? There are certain ways to go about things to make you a lot happier and to make life a lot easier on yourself!

Here are some things to stop doing to make you happier in the long run.

  1. Stop setting too many goals all¬†at once.¬† Goals are GREAT! Don’t get me wrong.¬† The key words are “all at once”. Take your goals one at a time so you do not get over whelmed.¬† I know if I tend to set multiple goals all at once I get discouraged and sometimes give up.¬† Setting small goals one at a time sets you up for a greater chance of success.¬† Start small then go BIG.
  2. Stop trying to control everything.¬† Let Go and Let your higher power take over.¬† Taking life as it comes and goes gives you a positive mind set and lessens the pressure of being in control.¬† There is always things and events that are out of our control.¬† Sometimes when trying to control those events we feel as if we’re failing, when meanwhile we have zero control over the obstacle.¬†¬† I truly believe by the motto “everything happens for a reason”.
  3. Stop doing everything for everyone else.¬† Believe me 95% of the time they can do it themselves!! I need to focus on this a lot more myself.¬† For example, for my daughters…I find myself doing things for them that they are capable of doing for themselves.¬† This isn’t necessarily helping them, it¬†teaches them how¬†not to be responsible for themselves.¬† Take a step back and observe the situation before acting. You will feel a lot less pressure. Focus on you.
  4. Stop refusing to take the first step. You can be happy as long as you are willing to change the negative habit in your life.  Take that first step in becoming a better YOU.
  5. Stop trying to impress others.  Sometimes this can be a hard one.  Especially for younger adolescents.  Believing that you are perfect the way you are.  Another persons opinion about you has nothing to do with you.  God has made you the way you are, and you are perfectly made.

Managing Stress

No matter where you go or what you’re doing there is bound to be stress at some point in your¬†week.

Phew!, we got the bad part out of the way!

Now for the good part! ūüôā¬†—

There are many ways to ease your way through stressful times in your life.  Here are a couple of tips to help you get on your way to a stress-free week!

  1. Doing things that are pleasurable to you.  Whether you enjoy painting, drawing, hiking, knitting, walking your dog..etc.. Taking time to do something you enjoy.

2.  Exercise.  Exercising can boost your confidence and energy.  It stimulates various brain chemicals and leaves you feeling relaxed and happier in the long run.

3. Deep breathing/meditation.  Meditation may seem silly at first but it works wonders.  Being still for a couple minutes can be a huge benefit.

4. Slow down.¬† Give yourself time to get from one place to another.¬†Feeling rushed always gives me stress.¬†Give yourself more time to get your tasks done. Get one thing done at a time.¬† Tomorrow’s another day. Not everything needs finished in one day.¬† I know sometimes I need to take my own advice on that one!!

5. Talking about your stress.  Talking with another person about what is causing you stress can be a huge help. Find the root to your stress.  Having someone to vent to or direct you in the right way is always a good help.

6. Healthy diet.¬† I know when I eat healthy I feel a million times better.¬† Of course I’m not saying¬†to not¬†have that chocolate piece of cake, but be mindful.

7. Stay away from triggers.¬† This has to do with #5.¬† Once you find out what is causing you stress try to stay away from those certain things.¬† Obviously if it’s work you can’t stay away from that.¬† But if there is a person there, then try your best to avoid that person.

8. A goodnight’s sleep.¬† This is pretty self explanatory.¬† A full night’s sleep always seems to cure any stress for me.

9. Take time for you!  Take time to be alone with yourself, and to enjoy what you love to do most.

What makes you happy?

~Being happy doesn’t mean everything’s perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections~

Happiness is key to living a good, fulfilling and meaningful life.¬† It is not only a feeling but a state of mind that effects our day to day lives.¬† If I dwell on the negative, I will have a negative day. Pretty simple.¬† All in my own doing.¬† It’s easy to get caught up in unhappy situations in life. A lot of those situations are out of my control.¬† So why let them make me unhappy?! ¬†If I learn to let things go that I cannot control my thinking will become less negative and more positive.

In the last few years I have found more and more things that has made my life more fulfilling and that makes my soul happy.

High up on my list is giving back.¬† Giving back and being helpful is a true reward.¬† The reward is the feeling you receive after being able to help someone else.¬†Seeing how happy it makes the other¬†person feel is a true reward in itself. ¬† A quote I love is “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” – John Bunyan

If life is every getting me down or I feel like there are so many things that are out of my control I can always control myself into helping another¬†out.¬† There is always someone out there who has it worst than me even on my worst days! Be happy even when your frown is feeling stronger than¬† your smile! ūüôā

Embrace Imperfection

20170828_112106-01Some see an imperfect¬†daisy in the above picture.¬† Some see a beautiful daisy.¬† It’s all in your perspective.

Life is imperfect.¬† Let’s be honest.¬† We are all imperfect whether we like to believe it or not.¬† Acceptance is key.¬† Accepting that life doesn’t always go as planned or look the way we wanted it to be.¬†Identifying¬†our weaknesses and turning those into strengths.¬† Remembering our pasts or defaults and learning from them.¬† But remembering not to¬†dwell on them!

There is a lot of daily pressures to be perfect. When most people think of the word imperfect they think of such a negative word.   Starting at a young age.  In grade school there is the pressure to fit in, and to make friends, to get good grade, etc.  That pressure continues to teenage years. Pressure continues to adulthood, just a different type of pressure.  There is so many pressures to list for adult-hood. haha So I wont go into detail on that one.  BUT the good thing about all of these pressures is that it not only helps us grow but also prepares us.  It is all in the way we look at imperfection.  That is what determines the meaning on the word.  We need to be able to laugh at ourselves.  Having flaws is what makes us real.  Some of my flaws is what makes me who I am. Anyone who loves me, will love me because of them, not in spite of them.

Being true to ourselves is what matters most.  Remember, Imperfect is not a negative word!

 

7 Tips on starting your day!

20170829_113129How do you find yourself starting your day? Wake up,¬†hit that annoying alarm clock, groan, roll over and cover your head with your blanket? Yep that sounds familiar and use to be me.¬† Don’t get me wrong that still happens every now and again.¬† Hopefully Some things that have helped me start my day on a positive note may be of aide to you.

Here are a few of those tips to start your day on a POSITIVE note:

  1. Prepare the night before.  If you have a job, make sure your outfit is picked out the night before, your lunch is packed, or any work that needs to be done for the day ahead is done.
  2. Getting washed up. Every night, before I get into bed I wash my face, not only for the hygiene aspect, but it washes away the day and gets me ready to start a new one the next morning. (Plus that makeup left on isn’t a pretty site in the morning)
  3. Waking up. Use an alarm that gradually gets louder. Maybe even a comforting noise (I know it has to be loud enough to wake you up) but not that loud screeching noise.
  4. I love coffee. After I get my coffee I always make sure to make my bed. (unless it’s the weekend) then I tend to spend a little bit¬†more lazy time in my bed.¬† Making my bed makes me feel like I’ve already accomplished something. It’s quick and easy to do.
  5. ¬†Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yea Yea we’ve all heard that saying…..BUT..Make sure to always eat breakfast! I know, some of us feel like you just don’t have time in the morning for eating. Or some of us just may not be hungry in the morning.¬† That morning meal will give you energy and make your mind sharper.
  6. Pray.  This one is an optional. Not everyone is spiritual but prayer is a big part of my life so I start and end my day with a prayer.  I feel connected to my higher power which makes me feel calm, relaxed and secure.
  7. Reflect. I think about ways I can do better and be better than the day before.  If I owe any apologies, if I can try harder that day to be the person God has chosen me to be.

I go about my day in the most positive way I can.¬† When things get in my way I try to think positive, I¬†think about how some things are out of my control. And THAT IS OKAY.¬†¬†I think of the best solution to the situation. Or realize that¬†the situation is out of my hands.¬†To Let GO, and ¬†Let God.¬† I try not to¬†have any resentments, owe any apologies and if I do I make those apologies (even if I have to push myself super hard) haha. I’ve noticed these ways of starting and ending my day help a lot in my daily life. Hopefully you can take some of these tips…some you can just leave if they don’t apply to you!

 

‘Negativity’ a not so pretty word.

**AMAZING THINGS WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM NEGATIVITY**

Kind of a weird subject to post about beings my blog is about positivity ,right? Let’s face it, we come across a lot of negativity in our daily lives.¬† Between the news, politics, those angry little Facebook posts, that driver who cut you off on the way to work..etc.¬† There are many ways to avoid that toxic negative energy.¬† Today I choose to be present and try my hardest everyday to be positive. TRY is a big part of that. haha.¬† I’m human, we’re all human. Trying is all we can do!¬† Lets face it, some days are harder than others.

Here are some ways and some steps I like to take to avoid that negativity in my life today.

  1. SETTING BOUNDARIES– whatever I am not comfortable doing or whenever I feel threaten I need to speak up and stick with my gut feeling

2. STAYING AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE.¬† This is hard. Sometimes it’s a family member or someone you see on a daily basis. Even if you struggle try to think about how their mood has nothing to do with you and that they are just having a bad day.

3. NOT FOCUSING ON THE PROBLEM.  Try to find a solution.  Try to take a step back and look at the whole picture.

¬†¬† 4.¬†¬†¬†TRY NOT TO OVERTHINK! ¬†I’m good at overthinking..believe me! Sometimes I create more havoc than need be and the situation turns out better than I had imagined. I myself need to look at the whole picture before creating that terrible picture in my head!

  5.  GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY NATURE.  Ahhh I love nature.  Nothing better than being outside in my opinion.  I suggest taking a walk to clear your mind.  Being outside gives me a freeing feeling.  To be able to appreciate all God has created.  While enjoying I get to clear my mind of all of the things that have been bothering me.

6.¬† CHOOSE WORDS WISELY.¬†¬†It is so simple to lash out to someone who is being nasty to us.¬† It is always smart to think before I speak.¬† Surely I’ve opened my mouth before thinking and it has always gotten me into¬†trouble.¬† It’s always best to take some time before replying to a harsh remark. Trust me on this one ūüôā

7. PERFECTIONIST– I’m pretty sure this is my middle name!! Trying to make everything perfect and making sure everything is perfect for everyone is SO stressful!!! It’s draining and exhausting.¬† Not until I take care of myself can I take care of my family.¬† Something I’m working on daily.
